About Chin Chic

The way of Chinese elegance — wearing Chinese style with taste, measure and intent.

Chin Chic is a styling and culture platform for a global audience, focused on Chinese dress — hanfu, mamianqun, qipao, and new Chinese style — and how it actually works in modern life.

What we are here to do

To tell the whole story of Chinese dress — where it came from, where it stands — and to explain how to wear it now.

These are one project, not two. Only talking about the present makes you a fashion magazine; only talking about the past makes you a museum. We do both, because to make the world accept an aesthetic, people first have to understand where it comes from — and to make them want to wear it, it first has to look good.

More importantly: we are not here to narrate. We are here to argue. The prevailing Western account of Chinese fashion is mostly second-hand — a few labels, a few symbols, a stock of Orientalist clichés. We want to tell it in our own materials, by our own aesthetic standards, in our own language — from the prescriptive geometry of the *Kaogong ji* to the exact number of pleats on a mamianqun today, from the negative space in Song painting to what a woman in Chengdu actually wears to a client meeting.

Aesthetic authority is not declared. It is written, one piece at a time.

What we cover

Our three ground rules

One: everything is original. Every piece is written and edited by us. Nothing is republished, nothing is spun.

Two: we speak well of brands. We admire the houses that have embraced Chinese elements, and we respect their fashion instinct. This industry needs people lifting each other up, not tearing each other down.

Three: image rights are traceable. Every image documents its source and copyright holder. See our Credits page.

Some product pages contain affiliate links — we may earn a commission from them, but it never influences our verdicts.
